MacFIBS is an Internet Backgammon Server client for the Macintosh.

VNC is not yet fully tested (November 1999) VNC, a small, simple and free client/server system that allows you to view the graphical desktop of another machine on your network. Still in Beta (pre-release), it promises to be interesting indeed.

MacLink Plus
DATAVIZ

MacLinkPlus used to be included with every Mac OS. For its commercial incarnation, Dataviz has spent some time seriously increasing its power of conversion. Install MacLinkPlus and translate files from almost any origin into word processing, database, graphics or spreadsheet files compatible with applications you own, including those coming from the PC universe.

Mini Conversion

Mini Conversion is a small utility, which can manipulate file Type and Creator signitures as well as changing weather files are visible, name locked or stationery. In simple terms, Type and Creator signitures are the codes by which the Mac OS associates files with applications - that's how when you double clicked on this SimpleText file, the Finder opened it with SimpleText!. They also effect the icon which a file displays on the desktop. It can be useful to be able to change these if you, for example, have a bunch of text files which you saved while surfing the World Wide Web. The trouble is that you don't want to have to open them opening in your web browser every time you double click them - you want to open them with a great text editor like BBEdit, so you change the files type and creator codes so that when you double click on your text files they open straight into BBEdit. You're not changing anything about the actual file, just what program the Finder thinks they were made with. Mini Conversion is also compact so that you can leave it running in the corner of your monitor while you work.

Requirements: Mini Conversion requires the Drag Manager be present in your system. Drag Manager is integrated in System 7 Pro and System 7.5 upwards. Mini Conversions Ram requirements are farily low - it can run on 120K with one pad open but with the recommended 230K, lots of pads can run simultaneously.

Mac OS Purge

Mac Os Purge purges the System Software memory. In othe rwords it gets rid of useless old junk froom the System Memory.

It also features a simple control strip interface (customizable through "skins") that allows you to access its pop-up menu from your desktop, a hierarchical pop-up playlist menu, phrasebook support to speak your language, and more. Music fans will definitely want to have this software in their arsenal. This cross-platform MP3 playback and production system will allow you to play audio and video on any Mac or (ahem) peecee (just in case you're stuck with one at work!) MVP can play over 20 popular music file formats including CD audio, QuickTime, AVI, streams, AIFF, WAV, and its own proprietary QDesign format. MODEM PUPPET SHOW

Could your modem work faster? Open Transport, together with Remote Access, use modem scripts to initialize and configure your modem's various parameters. Most of the time, this modem file is rather generic, and not necessarily optimized. As we saw in a previous article regarding the Three Pluses bug issue, parameters can be tweaked for various reasons.

From a conversation with the author:

"Modem Puppet Show is a collection of modem scripts that have been written so as to allow the modem to connect and operate at maximum speed. It came about as a hobby of mine.

"I started writing these scripts for my own modems and they worked so well I decided to write one for other modems as well. While some were better in theory than in practice other were very good and helped their users a lot and I am happy in the knowledge that my idea has helped so many people and I hope it will continue to help others in the future."

Modem Puppet Show 2.0 now includes several generic modem scripts that will run any 14.4/28.8/33.6/56K modem.
